Fake News! Resources for News Literacy

"The flood of fake news, propaganda, rumors, and advertising that often masquerade as news has made it harder than ever to separate fact from fiction.

News Literacy can help students of all ages recognize the differences between fact and rumor, news and advertising, news and opinion, and bias and fairness."

Stony Brook University

With the recent onslaught of fake news stories flooding our media stream, information literacy skills have moved to the forefront of our teaching objectives.

Resources for teaching news literacy include:

Stony Brook University's Center for News Literacy's Course Building Guide and 2017 Course Pack

Newseum ED's free learning tools

Newsela's The Phenomenon of Fake News text set

PBS NewsHour's Media Literacy Lesson Plans

The Three Village School District's team of Information Specialists are also moving to tackle fake news, warehousing resources and developing lessons.  Please stop by your building's Information Center for support.
